Why pay top-shelf prices for an off-the-shelf compromise of a factory-built rod? I can hook you up with a custom rod that's specifically made to fit your particular fishing situation, at a surprisingly reasonable price. My rods are no-nonsense fishing machines that cast like a rocket and are just plain nice to fish with. I stay away from ornate wraps and heavy wrap finishes that only add weight and hurt rod performance, keeping wraps short, understated, yet elegant. For running guides on flyrods, I typically use single-foot ring guides instead of double-foot snake guides, to save weight and sqeeze out every drop of rod performance. Locking security wraps are used on all single-foot guides. For any rod, guide setups can be super-tuned to the specific reel that wiill be used. Try a spiral-wrap guide layout on your casting rod, and you may never go back to a conventional "guides-on-top" rod again. Grip materials include cork and burl cork, EVA, and carbon-skinned urethane foam cores, which are 30% lighter than cork, yet extremely tough and durable. Wood reel seat inserts are local Upstate New York hardwoods like cherry, walnut, and tiger maple. All my grips are made right here one at a time, and are sized from your hand measurements, to fit you just like a glove.
The whole custom rod process starts with you - tell me which power, action, line and lure weights you need, what rod length you're thinking about, and what your specific fishing conditions are. Let me know what reel you'll be using. For flyrods, tell me about the water you'll be fishing. I'll come up with a blank and guide setup that will be perfect for your situation, and within your budget. I'll put on grips and a reel seat sized just for you, that will make your new rod an absolute joy to fish with.
